Headmaster’s Report – Term 2
Headmaster’s Report – Term 2
As we approach Mother’s Day, I’m reminded of the beautiful pairing of excellence and service that sits at the heart of our mission. These are not just lofty ideals but daily callings, modelled most perfectly in Christ and so often reflected in the quiet strength, humility, and selfless love of our mums. As a school found in Jesus, we give thanks to God for the mothers in our community—for their unwavering presence, their prayers, their gentle leadership, and the example they set for our students.
This morning’s Mother’s Day Breakfast was a joyful and heartwarming celebration. Thank you to the incredible OAGS community for such a strong turnout and to the staff team and School Captains who manned the BBQs and food tables with servant-hearted cheer. These moments of connection and hospitality are a reflection of who we are becoming together.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome the Anglican Schools Corporation Review Panel in June. This review is an important part of our rhythm as a school—a moment to pause, reflect, and give account of how our mission, vision, and daily practices align with our calling to provide high-quality, Christ-centred education.
Since our last review, we’ve made significant progress in growing our school culture, curriculum strength, pastoral care systems, and leadership structures. From improvements in teaching and learning to the expansion of our support systems and the maturing of our Christian formation programs, God has been faithful—and we are grateful.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to the many parents who have already taken the time to respond to the Xref parent survey. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and If you have not yet completed the survey, I warmly encourage you to do so.
Perhaps most visible is the exciting progress being made on the new Trinity Building. While construction has experienced its fair share of delays, momentum has returned and this significant facility promises to be a generational investment in excellence—delivering purpose-built spaces for student learning.
Aligned with this season of review and development, Term 2 will see the Executive Team and School Council working prayerfully and strategically on a renewed Vision and Strategic Plan for the next phase of OAGS’ growth. This will be a bold and faith-filled vision—one that honours our past, addresses the realities of the present, and continues to push forwards to a flourishing future.
Thank you for your continued partnership and prayers.

Celebrating our Mums in Autumn Sunshine
Celebrating our Mums in Autumn Sunshine
This morning’s autumn sunshine set the perfect scene as we welcomed over 250 wonderful mums to celebrate Mother’s Day in a truly special way. With warmth in the air and smiles all around, the event brought together connections for our community.
Our senior leaders and male staff generously stepped up to the BBQ, serving delicious Breakfast rolls with genuine love and enthusiasm. A big thank you to Café Latte for supplying the much-loved coffee that kept everyone warm and happy.
Thank you to the OAGS P&F who collaborated with the school. It was a beautiful morning of gratitude and celebration, honouring the incredible women in our community.
Adding to the joy, three lucky mums took home the lucky door prize, and were given a beautiful bunch of fresh flower arrangements and a bottle of Phillip Shaw sparkling wine.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a memorable success.

Strengthening Educational Partnerships: A Collaborative Visit from Macquarie Anglican Grammar School
Strengthening Educational Partnerships: A Collaborative Visit from Macquarie Anglican Grammar School
On Wednesday, 7th May 2025, Orange Anglican Grammar School had the pleasure of hosting two visiting teachers from Macquarie Anglican Grammar School, Dubbo. Their visit focused on observing and engaging with the teaching and learning practices within our Prep School.
This was a valuable opportunity to showcase the strength of our academic program, curriculum design, and assessment approaches. Our guests were able to witness teaching in action and gain insight into the intentional and structured learning experiences we provide to support early learners.
Throughout the visit, we also shared the importance of the strong partnerships that exist across our school community, which underpin the supportive and nurturing environment we are proud to offer at OAGS.
The time together was rich in professional dialogue and collaboration. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with colleagues who share a commitment to excellence in education and look forward to continuing these valuable partnerships into the future.

Excellence in Action
Excellence in Action
Primary School is excited to launch a new initiative during May called Excellence in Action!
For four weeks, our students will focus on developing everyday habits of excellence in our appearance, our learning, our behaviour and our movements around the school. Each week will highlight a simple, practical focus such as caring for our appearance, keeping our workspaces neat, showing great learning habits, and treating others with kindness and respect.
Excellence in Action is deeply connected to our school values of Truth, Excellence, and Service. We want our students to understand that when we strive for excellence, with God’s help, we are in the best position to love and serve those around us, just as Jesus taught us. Excellence isn’t about being perfect or better than others; it’s about giving our best effort, using the gifts God has given us, and lifting up the people around us. To make this fun and meaningful, our SRC leaders will be sharing weekly videos with examples (and some fun non-examples!) to help students understand what excellence looks like in action. Teachers will also be handing out Gotchas to recognise students who consistently put these habits into practice. We are looking forward to seeing our school community grow in character, kindness, and commitment as we put excellence into action this month.

Year 6 Trangie Excursion Brings HSIE Unit to Life
Year 6 Trangie Excursion Brings HSIE Unit to Life
As part of our HSIE unit ‘Factors That Shape Places’, Year 6 students embarked on an engaging excursion to Trangie and Warren last week, exploring how people interact with environments, influence places, and manage spaces in both cultural and agricultural contexts.
Our day began at the Wungunja Cultural Centre in Trangie, where students were welcomed by local Wiradjuri educators. They learned about the deep connection between Indigenous people and Country, and how traditional knowledge and practices are shaped by and shape the land itself. The students viewed artefacts, art, and tools that demonstrated how the Wiradjuri people sustainably used and cared for the environment.
After a hearty country BBQ lunch at the Johnston’s farm, the afternoon took us deep into the heart of Australia’s cotton industry. At the Australian Food & Fibre 12,000 hectare cotton farm at Warren, led by Anthony Johnston, students experienced firsthand how land is used and managed for large-scale cotton production. They learned how climate, soil, and water availability influence where cotton can be grown and how farmers use technology, such as GPS-guided cotton pickers, to efficiently harvest crops while caring for the land.
Next, we visited the Trangie Cotton Gin, where students observed the full process of cotton ginning — the transformation of freshly harvested cotton into clean, compact bales ready for global distribution. They watched as the raw cotton was fed into powerful machines that removed seeds, sticks, and other plant material, leaving behind clean fibres. These fibres were then pressed into large rectangular bales, each weighing over 200 kilograms and wrapped for transport. The tour demonstrated the scale, precision, and technology involved in processing cotton efficiently and safely.
This excursion gave our students a meaningful, real-life context for their HSIE studies. By connecting with people and places directly, they gained a deeper understanding of how environments shape human activity — and how human choices, in turn, shape the spaces we live in.
A huge thank you to Anthony Johnston for his expertise and generous giving of his time to enable this excursion to be such a success.

Primary Beginner Band
Members of our newly minted Primary Beginner Band met for the first time this week. Despite only having a handful of lessons, all of the students came along as a group to play their first notes. As I’m sure you can imagine, it wasn’t the prettiest of sounds when they played for the first time, but it was full of energy and enthusiasm. They managed to stay in time, starting and stopping together while playing from their new band books. The future looks bright for these budding musicians.

HICES Music Festival Auditions
Over 20 OAGS students have nominated themselves for the HICES Music Festival in August. This is a state based music camp for HICES schools held at Stanwell Tops that concludes with a performance in the Sydney Town Hall. The camp has received over 500 applicants so a rigorous audition process takes place to find the best talent from far and wide. OAGS students recorded their auditions this week under the expert guidance of Mr Clipsham, now it’s a waiting game to see who makes it in. We hope they all do.

Despite the usual teething problems that come with Week 1 of the season, we were fortunate to enjoy fine playing conditions and a fantastic ‘can do’ attitude from both players and coaching staff. It was a credit to all involved that fixtures ran smoothly and teams approached the opening round with enthusiasm and resilience.
A special mention goes to our mixed C Grade team, who remarkably played two matches over the weekend after just one training session. Their efforts were rewarded with strong victories in both games, including an impressive win over the Kinross 1st XI. An outstanding achievement and a testament to their teamwork and spirit.
We would also like to acknowledge the excellent work of our student coaches, who have embraced their new roles with energy and maturity. Thank you to Charlie D, Ruby M, and Henry M for the outstanding support and guidance you have provided your teams so far this season. Your leadership is greatly appreciated and is having a visible impact.
We look forward to what promises to be an exciting and rewarding season ahead.

THE SMITH FAMILY – Student2Student - Readers Program Offer
THE SMITH FAMILY – Student2Student - Readers Program Offer
How does the student2student program work?
The Smith Family’s student2student program matches an older student (the Buddy) with your child (the Reader) to help improve their reading and confidence. The student2student program is offered to students (Readers) who are in Years 3 to 8 and who are assessed as reading up to two or four years behind their actual age. The s2s program runs for an 18 week period during the school year. Readers are matched with Buddies who attend a different school, with both students only knowing each other's first names.
The Buddy calls the reader 2-3 times a week and listens to them read for at least 20 minutes each time. The Buddy uses the skills learnt in their training to assist the Reader with their reading.
What do I need to do?
Assist your child with setting up their first reading session by responding to the Buddy Parent’s call or text. They will introduce themselves and confirm reading times with you.
Keep The Smith Family updated when we call to check in on how the program is going for your child.
Encourage your child to complete the full 18-week program and participate fully during each session.
Help your child prepare for their reading sessions, making sure they are in a quiet, comfortable space.
Contact your Buddy’s parent/ guardian if you need to change a session time, giving as much notice as possible.
Contact The Smith Family Program Specialist with any questions or concerns (details below) or If you need translation and interpretation support, your Program Specialist can organise this for you.
What does my child use during the reading sessions?
Your child participates in our program through our Digital Model: Digital Model – a computer, laptop or tablet logged into the Chatty Kids website where they will read from a range of different electronic books.
**Please still make contact as we can potentially work around not having access, digitally.
Please contact the local Program Coordinator with The Smith Family for more information or if you have any questions at all.
